6 Reasons why you should use Facial Toner

Turns out what’s standing between you and and unclogged pores might be just adding one product into your beauty routine. When asked “what’s the secret weapon to healthy skin?” Dr. Hadley King, a New York City board-certified dermatologist, had a simple answer: toner.

She says not to pile on extra makeup to mask acne and oil problems. Instead, use a gentle, soothing toner to remove oil and traces of dirt and grime. “Toners are most helpful and necessary for people with oily or acne-prone skin, or for people who want extra cleansing after wearing makeup or other heavy skin products such as sun screen,” she explains.

That’s not all toner can do. Dr. King explains all of the toner benefits:

It shrinks pores.

Applying a small amount of toner to a soft cotton ball or pad and gently blotting and wiping your face with it will remove oil and give the appearance of smaller pores.

It gives your skin pH balance.

Our skin is naturally acidic, normally with a pH balance of between five and six. After cleansing, due to the alkaline nature of soap, the pH balance of skin gets disturbed. When this happens your skin needs to work overtime to restore the balance (and that may result in oil), but using a toner helps to restore this balance quickly.

It adds a layer of protection.

Toners can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, thus reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin. It can even protect and remove chlorine and minerals present in tap water.

It moisturizes.

Some toners are humectants, which means that they help to bind moisture to the skin.

It refreshes skin.

Toner can also be used in lieu of washing your skin when it’s oily or dirt. It will leave your skin revitalized, even when you’re on-the-go.

It can prevent ingrown hairs.

Toners containing glycolic or other alpha hydroxy acids can help to prevent ingrown hairs, so it also aids in grooming.

Kybella

KYBELLA™ is a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat on the upper neck, otherwise known as a “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule which eats away at fat. When injected properly, all other cells are left healthy and intact.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Kybella (deoxycholic acid), a treatment for adults with moderate-to-severe fat below the chin, known as submental fat. Using Kybella for the treatment of fat outside of the submental area is not approved and is not recommended.

Kybella is identical to the deoxycholic acid that is produced in the body. Deoxycholic acid produced in the body helps the body absorb fats. Kybella is a cytolytic drug, which when injected into tissue physically destroys the cell membrane. When properly injected into submental fat, the drug destroys fat cells; however, it can also destroy other types of cells, such as skin cells, if it is inadvertently injected into the skin.

“Treatment with Kybella should only be provided by a licensed health care professional, and patients should fully understand the risks associated with use of the drug before considering treatment,” said Amy G. Egan, M.D., M.P.H., deputy director of the Office of Drug Evaluation III in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “It is important to remember that Kybella is only approved for the treatment of fat occurring below the chin, and it is not known if Kybella is safe or effective for treatment outside of this area.”

Kybella is administered as an injection into the fat tissue in the submental area. Patients may receive up to 50 injections in a single treatment, with up to six single treatments administered no less than one month apart. Kybella is being provided in single patient use vials and should not be diluted or mixed with any other compounds.

The safety and effectiveness of Kybella for treatment of submental fat were established in two clinical trials which enrolled 1,022 adult participants with moderate or severe submental fat. Participants were randomly assigned to receive Kybella or a placebo for up to six treatments. The results showed that reductions in submental fat were observed more frequently in participants who received Kybella versus placebo.
The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area.

Kybella should not be used outside of the submental area, and it should not be used if there is an infection at the injection site. Caution should also be used in patients who have had prior surgical or aesthetic treatment of the submental area.

Restylane Silk & Restylane Lyft

Restylane Silk
The Lips you want. The lines you don’t.

Finally, a filler that can help you achieve your ideal smile. Restylane® Silk is the first and only FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth in patients 21 years of age and older.

Everyone’s facial structure is different — and so is everyone’s ideal lip shape and size. Silk is designed to provide precise lip shaping and line control, resulting in silkier, smoother lips and natural-looking results. Find your ideal lip shape and talk with a doctor about how Restylane Silk can help you achieve the look you want.

The lips and the lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging as you get older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane® products.

Restylane Lyft
Natural looking volume and definition for your cheeks.

Restylane® Lyft is now approved by the FDA for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies in patients over the age of 21. This is in addition to treating moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines).

As we age and our faces lose volume, some of us begin to look for ways to regain more definition in our cheeks without surgery. Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L®, is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to correct volume loss and treat wrinkles in the face.

PRP Therapy for Hair Loss

At Angel Aesthetics, we have been performing PRP therapy as a proactive therapeutic option for male and female patients experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.

Recent scientific research and technology provides the medical community with new understandings of wound and tissue healing. As a result of these scientific studies, we know PRP is an all-natural medical procedure performed in physicians offices for hair loss or conditions causing hair thinning.

HOW DOES PRP WORK?

Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. Published medical literature from Europe and the United States confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy. PRP therapy has established itself to be effective as a medical treatment modality in the specialty fields of oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, sports medicine and orthopedics. It has been used extensively in these specialties for the last two decades with generally positive outcomes and success. In the field of hair restoration, existing evidence demonstrates PRP therapy as a promising treatment option to promote hair growth.

HOW DO YOU PERFORM THE PROCEDURE?

Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at your primary care physician’s office. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood.

The PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. After centrifugation, the platelets and other vital growth proteins raise to the top of the tube. Under a topical anesthesia, a special micro needling roller device is used to stimulate the dermis of the scalp. This micro needling stimulation causes microtrauma to the dermis that induces other healing and growth repair cells into action. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp and topically.

The PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth. PRP can be used preoperatively, intraoperatively, or post operatively. Some patient’s chose to have PRP performed every three (3) to four (4) months as early data suggests regular or semiannual PRP treatments can stimulate hair growth.

How to get the best outcome out of your Injection Treatments!

Before Your Injection Treatment

To avoid bruising it is best not to take any pain relievers that are blood thinners such as aspirin like Tylenol, Advil, Motrin or vitamin supplements like Fish Oils, Omega 3, Ginko or Vitamin E. Avoid alcohol for a few days after treatment since it, too, is a blood thinner.
Please inform your clinician if you have any questions about this prior to the procedure. Sunburned skin is difficult to treat so avoid exposure to the sun.

Arnicare:
Arnicare topical or pellets are a great way to prevent swelling and bruising after treatment.
Fast absorption means there is no interference. You don’t have to be an athlete to appreciate fast-absorbing Arnicare Gel. Busy people count on it too! It leaves no greasy residue, so you can keep moving with confidence. And because it does not contain camphor or menthol, a medicinal odor is not an issue. When you’re on the go and don’t have time to wait for relief, Arnicare Gel/pellets is your fast-acting option.

Juvederm Voluma XC Injectable Gel

Collagen Induction Therapy

The fractional micro delivery provides unparalleled collagen induction via fragmented delivery of needles into the epidermis and dermis. These micro injuries to the skin encourage and harness the power of the body’s innate ability to re-grow and repair the skin through the physiology of collagen induction. Our procedure provides controlled precision that allows for the three phases of CIT mechanics of new collagen growth to occur. The first phase begins with the release of the bodies growth factors and the further cascade of new epidermal growth, fibroblast chemo-taxis, fibroblast proliferation and matrix production. This proliferation of the body’s tissue continues to release growth factors from fibroblasts, keratinocytes and monocytes culminating in the second of three phases of CIT mechanics where collagen III, IV and I, elastin, proteoglycans, GAG’s and angiogenesis occur. The last phase of CIT and the Dermapen treatment results in the tissue remodeling process where the skins vascular matrix matures and skin tightening as well as new collagen can be seen. The body’s ability to remodel and heal itself is at the heart of this amazing procedure and because the process never involves heat or thermal energy or other chemicals or unnecessary trauma, the skin can quickly heal with almost zero downtime!

PATIENT FEEDBACK:

“PLEASE pass along to Danielle that I am amazed at the early results of the DermaPen!! Honestly, after less than 24 hours I see a very marked difference in my skin and reduction of lines! That procedure is practically miraculous! No problems at all just one tiny patch of redness on my chin. Thank her for recommending this!!!! I’m thrilled!”

“I was skeptical about the results the DermaPen procedure would have, but Danielle convinced me it was an effective way to remove fine lines and wrinkles, with little down time, if any. I ve had two DermaPen procedures so far, and preparing for my third final one. This is an AMAZING procedure and she was right on about the minimal down time. Plus, it s quite cost effective, compared to other procedures. It takes awhile to see the results (not like injections that show immediate results) – but if you can wait 3-4 weeks, the change is incredible. I am getting a lot of comments about how much smoother my skin looks…love the procedure, love Danielle and love Dr. Tzikas!!! -JMDelray”

Facials Facials Facials! Why they are so important!

Cleaning

“The increased level of pollutants we are exposed to leave dirt, grime and even chemicals on our skin,” says Coffey. “This step in a facial helps clean out clogged pores so the skin can breath — preventing blackheads and breakouts.” In addition, the cleaning phase of the facial helps address the free radical damage done from sun exposure. New professional, sonic-powered, hand-held cleansing machines, combined with recent skincare product breakthroughs, allow for deeper penetration into the skin.

Analyzing

According to Coffey, the latest technology in skin analysis allows a facialist to more accurately analyze a client’s skin and prescribe appropriate products. Clear LED light illumination systems that are built into magnifying lenses can help a client pinpoint where problem areas are occurring and take preventative or corrective actions — sooner rather than later. “If a client knows they have a clump of skin damage on their forehead, they can work with their facialist to more aggressively treat the situation,” says Coffee.

Exfoliating

While traditional facials have always involved removing dead skin as part of aiding cellular renewal, in the past few years, peels and microdermabrasion have taken this process even further. Coffey says the result of this type of exfoliating is the stimulation of collagen and elastin production.

When the skin is well exfoliated, the top layer of dead skin comes off and the face glows. This step of a facial helps boost the immune system of the skin and improves circulation which helps refine pores and lessen wrinkles.

Feeding

The ingredients contained in today’s professional skin care products are designed for deeper penetration into the skin. In addition, when microcurrent technology (which is noninvasive) is used, it helps the products to penetrate even more deeply. Coffey says that increased hydration helps stimulate the energy centers of the cells to work more efficiently. This, in turn, helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, gives skin a smother and firmer texture and improves facial contour.

Calming

“The last phase of a facial is designed to calm the skin and bring it back into balance,” says Coffey. The biggest breakthrough is the use of LED light, which helps take down inflammation and targets conditions such as premature aging, rosacea and hyperpigmentation.

Coffey says that by getting regular facials at every phase of the process, you are taking small steps to buck the effects of aging on your skin — making it less likely that you will have to spend the big bucks on bigger, more expensive techniques down the road.

Latisse new 5mL bottles!

4seohunt.com/www/angelaesthetics.com.

Allergan’s new 5 mL Latisse.

Allergan launched on August 1, 2012, a larger 5 mL bottle of Latisse in the USA. The original sized bottle is 3 mL.

Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) is a FDA approved drug to treat inadequate and aging eyelashes.

Approved in December 2008, over 3 million kits have been sold with approximately 500,000 users. It is estimated that 1 Latisse kit is sold every 30 seconds.

The new 5 mL Latisse comes with 140 brushes for 10 weeks of manufacturer suggested usage, as opposed to the 3 mL version which comes with 60 brushes for about 4 weeks of manufacturer suggested usage. At this point, there is a choice to purchase 5ml or 3ml bottles of Latisse. The suggested retail for physicians is $179 for a 5mL bottle versus $120 for a 3ml bottle. But, it’s not just the price and volume of Latisse that has changed. The brush to Latisse volume ratio has changed too. Patients now get more brushes per ml than before. There are 28 brushes per mL as opposed to 20 brushes per mL. “I think many patients will appreciate having more brushes – especially those who are using one brush per eye as recommended by Allergan,” says Katie Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas.

The suggested weeks of usage to Latisse volume has changed. For a 5 mL bottle, the usage is suggested for 10 weeks. For a 3ml bottle, the usage is suggested for one month (roughly 4 weeks). With the increased size, there is 67% more volume in the new product.

Rueckl continues, “There are savings associated with a larger volume of Latisse.
The list price in our office for the 5 mL Latisse is $179 which represents $4.20 savings per mL over the previous 3 mL version’s list price. Plus, the patients get the added value of having more brushes. At this list price for the larger Latisse, it is the equivalent of buying the smaller Latisse at $107.40 considering only the volume of Latisse. Also, we feel better about selling this larger size, because it really does take about 12 weeks for most women to see the changes to their lashes.”

Patient Leslie S. of Nevada also states, “At first I thought I would see a small change, but as if by magic I had long lashes and when you add a little mascara….it’s remarkable how different you look. I actually heard that one of my friends had to cut her lashes because they were so long!”
